The Way In Is Not The Way Out
What To Do With Anxiety :
Anxiety is a protective energy – it comes from a good place. Thank it for trying to keep you safe but let it know you don’t need it right now. Don’t worry alone, don’t worry when you’re sitting, and, most of all, don’t worry when you’re worried…!!
Why Not Worry When You’re Sitting?
Adrenaline is being actively pumped into your body when you’re worried. If you remain seated and worried, your body thinks it needs to pump more adrenaline to keep you protected. Getting up and moving reduces the body’s need for more adrenaline
It’s Important To Quickly Go From Worrying To Planning :
- Take control of the stress/worry rather than letting it control you/your thoughts
- Do a ‘worry walk’ – it’s important to physically move to minimize adrenaline
- Movement is a primitive way to signal to our brain that the threat is over
- Allows you to ease back to balanced brain
- Set a specific time and space to worry – control when you are going to address it
- It’s important to transform the energy and use in a successful way
Watch Your ‘Inputs’ :
- Reduce your exposure to Negativity.
- Minimise news viewing
- Minimise social media – positive hits to our brain destabilizes us if we get too much dopamine and then it’s withdrawn (like addiction)
Get Good Sleep :
- Minimise screen time before going to bed
- Set a ritual that gets your mind and body ready for sleep
- Get a good amount of sleep regularly – usually 8 to 9 hours
- Our brains need REM sleep in order to fully rest
- We need several rounds of REM sleep each night
Eat Right :
- Protein – gives us a smooth and balanced state and keeps us full longer
- Especially important to have a high energy breakfast
- Minimize carbs as they give us highs…but then lows
Increase Your Positivist :
- Give equal and purposeful time to dreams and desires
- Offset worries with positive thoughts
- Be creative and novel in your positive thoughts
- Be purposeful about your gratitude
- Keep a gratitude journal
- Maintain a regular practice of gratitude/meditation/mindfulness
- Mindfully reflect on your blessings, don’t rush past them
- Spend time in your ‘Garden of Gratitude’ each day
